Essay: Introduction

In my essay I will be telling you about the “reel” and real. The term real, as you probably know, means that it is a fact. The term reel means that it’s not real but made for entertainment purposes. The term originated from the movie reel, as it is made for entertainment purposes. The reel started in New York 1970 and was tackling subjects like police brutality, which affected the black community. This soon became popular with in the white community. Small record companies took in the rappers and later in got bought by bigger record companies. In white suburbia they liked the music but didn’t deal with police brutality, so they couldn’t relate to the music. The music companies wanted to change the music so they could sell more records. They changed the music to make it more hyper violent, and all consumers admitted that they liked the music and even more records got sold.

Hip hop and sampling

—Hip hop is “recycled” music—Blues start then jazz then soul—All hip hop started from soul—                                                        ——————————————————————I think it will be about a girl they like.            The first one is more like a conversation and it sets up the song.

Indecisive.                                                          Upbeat.                                                              Old school.                                                      ——————————————————————

He may have taken a sample of the song because he may have been a role model to him.                                                       ———————————————————

Even though the style of hip hop is different, it follows the tradition of black music. They want to keep the origin of hip hop the same so they can prove that they are capable of doing what other people can do.

Mos Def

Number 2 because it looks like the man and his son have nowhere to go.                 ——————————————————————-  “People was tussling, bustling and hustling”

“Like city lights stay throbbing”

“Thirsty criminals take pockets”                   ——————————————————————-Mos Def represent the inner city as a place where no one will help you as he says “Can’t tell between the cops and the robbers, they both partners, they all heartless”
